Music director

Immersed in choral chant music since childhood, François Bessac began piano lessons at the age of six. From the age of ten, he began to sing in his high school chorus before joining the A CŒUR JOIE choir of Grenoble; François covered the masterpieces of Clément Janequin, Arvo Pärt, Francis Poulenc, J.S. Bach or Kristoph Penderecki.

While pursuing a doctorate of sciences, he studied chant at the Conservatoire de Grenoble and choir direction and the Centre Polyphonique d'Alsace

Eager to expand his musical universe after a vocal jazz workshop with Joy Kane and Guido Helbling, he started Charlatan Transfer at the age of 21 and directs the group to this day.

He continues to learn jazz with the vocalist Laurence Saltiel, Harold Lenselink, Roger Leston and Brazilian music with the Lyon-based Gondwana Ensemble directed by Eduardo Lopes and jazz writing at the Conservatoire de Villeurbanne.

After a year with the French Army Chorus, François Bessac together with Army friends, founded the Vocal ensemble Phonandre (12 male voices), winners of several international contests. More recently, he was a founding member of Voix Humaines, a choir of male soloists (10 singers).

More and more often, François Bessac is solicited to conduct choral jazz workshops, from exploratory exploratory workshops of 1.5 days to longer workshops lasting an entire week : 3rd Festival of Choir singing of Quintin (22), Argentières-La-Bessée (04), Grenoble (38).

Its passion for polyphonic vocal jazz has led him to create with another jazz "enthusiast", the website Jazz Choral, collecting information about French vocal groups, training courses, workshops, concerts and discs related to vocal jazz in France. This website has become a reference in the musical world.
